Oxygen Therapy for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

Oxygen Therapy for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

When your lungs breathe, it brings in O2 (oxygen) and passes it into your blood and from there it goes to every other part of your body. When your tissues and muscles use the oxygen, CO2 (carbon dioxide) is a byproduct that needs to be released from your body by breathing out.

People with COPD have difficulty with this process of breathing in O2 and breathing out CO2. It is a progressive lung disease which means it gets worse and worse over time. Your body becomes stressed and unhealthy because of this progressive disease which leads to other health complications.

Oxygen therapy can help prevent all the negative effects of low blood oxygen levels. It will reduce the strain on your heart, reduce shortness of breath and help you stay more active and exercise longer. It also helps your brain think and remember better and sleep better.

Oxygen therapy can make a big difference in the way you feel and your quality of life if you have COPD. It is a medical treatment so it will need to be prescribed by a doctor. A prescription will include whether you need oxygen for rest, exercise, and/or sleep, how many liters per minute for each, how many hours a day oxygen should be used and what type of oxygen system you should use.

Regardless of the oxygen system, MIJA’s Critical Alert for Oxygen will help you monitor your oxygen levels and has visual and audible alarms when you are running low.  This is particularly useful for older patients that have a hard time tracking their oxygen levels by themselves.

MIJA’s Critical Alert for Oxygen can help save lives and ensure that you never run out of oxygen unknowingly. The worst thing is needing oxygen and not having any.

Remember, immediate notification is no longer a good to have, it is a must have!
