NOVEMBER 18, 2015 “IT’S NOT TOO LATE!

World COPD Day 2015 World COPD Day has been held every year since 2002 by GOLD (the Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease, www.goldcopd.org). The goal is to raise awareness for COPD while also representing a partnership between health care groups and respiratory educators.

The quote representing 2015’s World COPD Day is “It’s not too late” to place emphasizes on that at any stage, before or after diagnosis, there are steps you can take to improve respiratory health.

COPD is a widespread disease that directly impacts the quality of life for both patients and their families, as well as being the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer. MIJA has developed a product to help reduce the burden of COPD. Our Critical Alert for oxygen tanks is an electronic gas monitoring device that easily informs caregivers, nurses and patients when oxygen level are reaching a low level. Our product makes it easy for anyone to monitor oxygen levels through highly accurate content measurement and empty/full status detection and notification.

Many people who experience the early symptoms of COPD, such as breathlessness, chronic cough, and bringing up phlegm do not think COPD affects them and associate this with getting older or a consequence of smoking cigarettes.

A simple, painless test can help diagnose this disease early for people at risk for COPD. Like most diseases, finding COPD early gives the best chance to prevent further lung damage.

Facts about COPD

  • 1 person dies from COPD every 4 minutes
  • COPD is the 3rd leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer
  • There are approximately 700,000 hospitalizations each year due to COPD
  • People suffering from COPD often lose 50% of their lung function, making them feel breathless a majority of the time

For COPD patients who rely on a steady oxygen flow it is important that they trust their caregivers and their devices monitoring their oxygen levels. MIJA’s oxygen monitoring device, Critical Alert, make it easy to see and hear when oxygen levels need attention because LED alarms make a visible and audible sound to alert all parties.
