According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are roughly 4 million family-owned business in the U.S., with 1.4 million of those run by a husband-and-wife.Some people might assume that running a business with your spouse offers the best of both worlds: pursuing a professional dream with someone you love, while getting a chance to spend more time with them. Others find the concept of working with a spouse at best, dangerous, and, at worst, a direct path to marital ruin. The owners of MIJA have overcome the odds and have been successful at both growing their business and making their marriage work.
People know that MIJA stands for MIchaela and Jack McSheffrey. Yet, most of us were unaware that they will be celebrating two milestone anniversaries in the next month: 50 years of marriage and 45 years in business.
Even after forty five years, MIJA continues look to the future through product innovation and product development providing pressure solutions for the life safety industry. MIJA’s newest product offering is the electronic Critical Alert for medical oxygen management. The Critical Alert for Oxygen is the first in its class to provide a low oxygen alarm for oxygen tanks with post valve regulators. It warns patients, caregivers, and medical professionals alike when a medical oxygen tank is getting low, making oxygen management safer, easier to manage, and less stressful.
The past forty-five years would not have been possible without their loyal customer base and the hard work and dedication of the MIJA employees. MIJA would like to say thank you to everyone for the loyalty and dedication that has made the past 45 years possible.
